Last week I shared 4 steps to creating a blogging strategy for your business. A mission statement is an integral part of helping you do just that. It also keeps you on track as you're attempting to check off #allthethings on your never-ending to-do list. You can apply this method to any area of your life where you need some direction and focus. For business purposes, I'll show you how to create a mission statement for your online business.
Ask yourself the following questions. Write down as many answers as you'd like. You don't need to spend a ton of time on this. Once you have answers to these questions, you can begin crafting your own mission statement.
Discover Your WHO
Who are you currently working with?
Who do you want to work with?
Who do you want to support or influence?
Choose one of these groups where you will place most of your focus.
My Who - online business owners, entrepreneurs, solopreneurs

Find Your WHAT
What is my focus or passion?
What do I feel called to help others with?
What do I enjoy writing about?
What problems or struggles do I want to help others with?
Choose 2 - 4 of these answers that resonate with you the most
My What - helping business owners connect and engage with potential clients by creating content like blog articles, web copy, sales copy, email newsletters, social media copy, and website and social media graphics
Choose Your HOW
How will I spread my message?
How will I find my clients?
How will I get the word out?
How will I let others know about my product or service?
My How - advertising, networking, helping other business owners, serving, collaborating
List Your METHODS
What methods will I use to spread my message to others?
What tools do I have or can I develop/use to convey this message?
Methods I chose: blog articles, Facebook groups, LinkedIn, Pinterest, social media
Creating Your Mission Statement
Now it's time to put your mission statement together. This part did take me longer than 15 minutes but it was so nice to have a place to begin. A direction to focus on.
After combining different words and statements, using an online thesaurus, and going through a few different combinations, this is what I finally came up with.
Virtual Services by Samantha supports online business owners by helping them create authentic content - blog articles, web copy, social media content, graphics, and images - that will connect and engage with potential clients and customers.
Samantha grows her business by networking and helping other like-minded business owners. Through social media and her blog, she shares tips and techniques that will help her fellow entrepreneurs build strong and sustainable businesses.
The above mission statement explains who I focus on, what I do, and how I grow my business. As a business owner who has a million and one tasks on her to-do list this helps me decide where to focus my priorities. It will also help as you create your own blogging strategy that will grow your business.
